First Quarter Check-in from Quilting & Learning

Hi, I was catching up on my blog reading when I found Yvonne's Quilting Jetgirl's First Quarter Check in party and post. It's been such a whirlwind of activity here that I thought that it would be nice to actually see what I said that I would do, and what actually happened so far! Thanks Yvonne!

January to March 2024

Quilts

In my Quilts section, I got distracted and chased a squirrel! I ended up not participating in this year's SAHRR (Stay At Home Round Robin) but instead signed up for Joanne's at Canuck Quilting ...

Hearts for Felicity 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Very pretty, and in my Mum’s favourite colours. I had to ask Mum what her favourite colour was when I was going to make them a quilt, and I had never noticed a preference in what colours she wore or what colours she used to decorate the house, but pretty much all the colours she used work well with purple.

Still pretty, although a little less space for quilting to be a feature.

Lisa the Unicorn Quilt from Tamarack Shack

Maureen made this sweet unicorn quilt for her granddaughter.  The pattern is called Lisa the Unicorn by Elizabeth Hartman.  Maureen pieced the unicorn's horn out of gold lame and the head is made with velvet.

I quilted it with the Pieced of my Heart pantograph, used pink So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

The backing is a fun unicorn print flannel.

Sensational Recipe, Bramble Blooms, New Spin on Backbasting from Canadian Needle Nana

My second Odd Bunch box has arrived and I've been very pleased with both of them. For $20 a box, I think they are a good deal. All of the items have been fresh, nothing even close to spoiling or odd.  I am enjoying the variety of items included, a nice selection of vegetables and fruit.

I got blackberries in the first box, a fruit I never buy so it was neat to try them. It also had a butternut squash in the first and an eggplant in this one. Two things I haven't cooked before.
I cut ...

Our Rotary Club and many in our community are devastated by Jake's tragic death on Monday in a freak accident.  He was 34 and is survived by his wife and four children, his beloved grandmother, and a large extended family.  Jake's grandfather, Jack, started our annual Rotary golf outing and Jake stepped up as club president and outing chairman in Jack's honor.

Tuesday was month #8 of Barb M's estate sale.  Not as much yardage this time -- stacks of books and many, many, many WIPs in ziploc bags.

Here's what I purchased.   Average $1.62 ...

Scrappy Batiks, Cool - Almost a Finish from The Colorful Fabricholic

After the girls in our hive made our original Scrappy Celebration in a palette like the pattern, and a second one in brighter colors, and a third one in patriotic colors, we still weren't tired of making blocks. So we switched it up and went with black instead of white, and black-alternatives instead of low volumes. We combined these with batiks in bright and light shades for contrast.

We were making blocks individually but using shared fabrics, and we ended up with too many blocks for a twin sized quilt. So I asked the girls to humor me and ...

Friday Finish ~ Quick Table Runner from Melva Loves Scraps

The thing about ordering fabric online is that you take a risk in the accuracy of the colors AND you have to wait for them to arrive.

I had ordered fabric to be used as the sashing strips and borders for my purple Pieces of My Life quilt last week and they seemed to take f o r e v e r to arrive.  That was when I decided to pull out the "souvenir" fabrics I picked up while in Arizona.  I had originally planned on placemats but couldn't decide on a pattern/layout that I was excited about ...

Spoolin' Around & more finishes from My Sewing Room

I have some finishes to show off this week, starting with the 2023 Saturday Sampler, called Spoolin' Around.  This is going to hang on the wall near my sewing room doorway.

I really wanted to photograph this quilt outside, but 30 mph winds made that impossible.  Gotta love living on the prairie.  And of course it was overcast as well.  The fun thing about this Saturday Sampler was that we alternated each month with pieced blocks and applique blocks. Because everyone chose their own fabrics for this one, every quilt was unique at the end.

The other finishes were a ...
